As part of the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of H1N1 virus, please take note that all IG Activities are to cease with effect from TODAY until 3^rd July 2009 (Fri). No practices, rehearsals, meetings or performances should happen in this coming 7 days. Where in doubt, please contact the Club Advisors.

Please note that students are advised to go home now that rehearsals and meetings are all cancelled. Please do not hang around or hang out with IG mates in place of these official rehearsals/meetings. Doing so will not help in preventing the spread of the virus, and in fact, it will make it harder for contact tracing.

We seek your cooperation in exercising social responsibility in this time period.

Basically, the ones who will be involved are Hilmi, Fitria, Mira and Nada..:)Yes, this Saturday, 21st February, is the preliminary round. They will be competing with Madrasah Wak Tanjong Al-Islamiah and also Tampines Junior College... So, which them luck yea! Insyallah.. If last year, the peeps from Pentas Karyawan had CINTA (love) as their theme, this year they will be taking on KESENGSARAAN (suffering) for our theme.. Though time is really short (they have only one week to prepare for the theme), they really try to make use of every time that they had..Sampai pergi East Coast buat pantun... Sempat eh... Hehe.. Winks winks..So yea, they do really need the support from us... Kalau free, sudi-sudi lah hadirkan diri yeee.. Heh..

Travels Beyond the Margins

An annual competition organized and mentored by Teater Ekamatra themselves, Pentas Karyawan embarked on another journey towards realising the making of yet another enthralling teater play. Trapped, was their story. The exploitation of money and women's body in many ways possible, and how globalisation has effected human in today's robust world.

They were both SM/Scriptwriter and actor respectively, but this year two ladies (Wirni Asyura and 'Arifah 'Atiqah) decided to take a different toll and challenge of being the Director and Scriptwriter for this year's play. What a journey, to know that there lies a lot of enthusiastic and potentially good actors out there who has so much to look out for

The intensive trainings, scoldings, latecomers, memorising scripts, stressful situations, tears, playful actors, and so much more. All was worthwhile. At the end of the day, the audiences just LOVE us, and they called for another encore.

Through all the hard work, we brought home Outstanding Performer Award through the role of Insyirah, played by Nur Fa'izah Bte Ahmad Fauzi.
2 years straight consecutively! What an achievement.

God Willing, Pentas Karyawan will re-stage Trapped again some time in October.
Watch out for the vibes once again yea!

Fiestari 2008

Greetings MCG!

Sorry for the loooong hiatus, everyone has been busy So here is updating a very belated post, FIESTARI 2008 that took place way back 0n the 12th of July!

Dharma.Repfus3 did extremely great Their dance, called Zifin Qasirun, embraced the dance floor with so much energy and grace.
The intensive trainings really paid off

If I remembered correctly, one of the 2 thorns among the roses, Qayyum, was the only year one who was involved in this year's competition. Well done to him for taking up the challenge to be part of the prestigious competition.
There is the saying that goes in a competition, there is always a winner and a loser. But judging from the achievements thus far, Dharma.Repfus3 won the heart of the crowds with the dance techniques and spirit level. There is always a next year.

MCG would like to congratulate you guys for the commendable display of performance! Apape pun, tetap memperjuangkan kesenian tari Melayu kan? And congrats to Indra Nila Kirana for being crowned the champions.

Greetings from RP MCG!

Updates updates on the recent RP ISC 2008

Congratulations to Team RP for making this event a success,

Especially to the organizing committee.

(Thanks to wasit and jurors too.)

Extending our outmost sincere gratitude to the crew members, advisors, Selatra instructors, coaches, alumnis and the rest of the MCG members who came to support, and everyone else who has helped in contributing one way or another.

Without each and every one of your support, the event wouldn't be happening.

We came together with one goal in mind, hopefully that is to win the overall on our homeground.

Having said that, emerging 3rd place winners already feels like first.

Through all the pains and hardships that we have gone through, we stood by each other and that is how we merge stronger than before.

Winning is a saticfaction. But experience is even more.

Let's pick up the many little pieces together again, as there is this whisper of hope that in times to come, we are better then before. Already, Selatra has done MCG and RP proud.

The Malay Cultural Club of Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NPMCC) cordially invites you

(students and teachers) to their production entitled
“Mendongak ke Langit: Walau Sejengkal, Segunung Disemai”.

Mendongak Ke Langit is about how humankind, in this ever-changing world, are trying our very best to achieve everything in life, the ‘long-life learning’ policy that we hold on to yet knowing there’s always room for improvements and of whether we can, should or never be satisfied with what we have done for ourselves. Lessons are there to be learnt and such are the fact that we must always practice modesty, the fact that little efforts, when brought together can bring a whole great thing to the community; so, share the knowledge and together we move forward not only for ourselves but as a community.

This production is the staging of all the 5 departments of NPMCC; XPDTari (dance), SriNadi (drama), Cendikiawan (language) and Paduka & Adiratna (dikir barat). The colorful usage of contemporary dance is vividly expressed with a touch of cultural and traditional movements that make up the whole production. We believe that our production will not only help students to understand the message of the play but also to cultivate and appreciate arts through the collaboration of movements in dance and dikir barat, expression in drama and the recital of speeches in the different segments of the play.

The production will be on

this 14th June 2008, 6.15pm (to be seated) at LT 26.

Hello readers~ been quite a while eh? Much apologies for the late late entries. Hehe. But… We’re finally back with updates again! And with a fresh new look too! ^_^

Ahaa.. where did we last left off eh? Ohh yes.. Odyssey!! Okay2, no time to waste now. Here’s the much awaited pictures with text by Wirni Asyura, our dear producer/scriptwriter/production in-charge for the event! :)

"So what can I say?
15th Dec marks the end of Odyssey
But for sure the beginning of everything has actually just began

We started off as 4 different sub groups, and ended off as 1 big MCG family
Months ago, was when it was the moment I knew Im going to be proud off 1 day
And yes indeed I am
Approached by Cikgu Rahman to produce MCG's very first production
I couldn't resist this opportunity
For I knew deep down that this was what Ive always wanted
From meetings with the head ICs, to our very first training
To production meetings til bump-in and show day
Goshh, nothing can describe the journey that Ive had
Wif each and everyone of them
The bond was formed, ties that bind
Laughters and sorrows shared
It was amazing to see how each of us wanted the best for MCG
The spirit was soaring high, and I felt proud to be a part of the family

Being the producer/scriptwriter/production in-charge wasnt easy
Neither was it difficult
Especially when I had people behind me who believed in me
Whom I wanted to thank them for putting their faith and trust in me
Telling me to my face that I can do it coz I am capable of leading
I appreciate each of their encouragement
Because that was what that keeps me going on
Standing right behind me in case I fall
Just a smile would make me feel whole again
Jus a warm hug would restore my confidence back in me
Their words would just make me realize how much they do care

I couldnt feel much more happier and proud of everyone
At the energy level and confidence they gave me
Sitting down in a circle together as ONE
And reflecting back the memories was surreal
And I quote back my speech that I made to them just hours before showtime:

"Since day 1, from the day I had meeting wif Azrina & Saiful
To our very 1st training wif all of you till this moment
I can just conclude 2 words
Courage. And encourage. 2 words, 2 definition. Same origin, the HEART.
There is no bravery or boldness w/o heart
There is no spirit or support w/o heart
There is no sacrifine or soul w/o heart
Nothing great ever gets done w/o heart
So you got to have heart, miles and miles of it

We need heart, sebab perjalanan untuk mencapai kejayaan penuh dengan cabaran
It is not something that we easily admit
Alot of times we think that we can do this alone
Tapi dalam hati harus akur, have to admit the fact that we do need encouragement

And Ive seen that alot of times during rehearsals, which is a great thing
Why? Because encouragement boost performances and our confidence
We need the enthusiasm and the energy from others
Which is why, for my star performers, ur encouragement comes from the audiences
Knowing that the applause they gave you meant that you are connecting to them
And them, to you in order to do your best
And to my backstage crew, apart from encouragement, communication and teamwork builds up a strong production team, understand and listen to one another because you are the people that makes the show happening"

I just wanted to apologise to anyone if I have offended you guys while working
Menyusahkan siapa-siapa atau ade kelemahan dan kekurangan, harap maafkan
But 1 thing for sure, this is the best that Ive had experienced in my life
A memorable journey that I wont forget, thanks for sharing it with me

Perjalanan insan mencari jati diri menjadi tema persembahan keseniaan oleh Kumpulan Budaya Melayu Politeknik Republic yang bakal berlangsung pada 15 Disember ini.

Dinamakan Odyssey: Barahkah Bumi ini, atau Bumi ini tiada Barakah, pementasan itu merupakan projek budaya besar-besaran Festival Seni Masyarakat yang dianjurkan oleh Pusat Budaya The Republic.

Pementasan itu akan mengetengahkan pelbagai genre seni pementasan termasuk tarian, pencak silat, dikir barat dan sastera.

Odyssey akan merangkumi keempat-empat ciri kesenian itu dalam paparan seorang insan yang mengembara, meneroka jiwa dan emosinya. Jangkakan persembahan yang cukup kreatif dan memukau, dengan koreografi gerak oleh penari veteran, Fathurrahman Said.

Adeih maaf ehk lambat post.. berat jugak keje reporting nih.. Nak mintak tukar can? Hehe =P Okay takpe, moving on~ here’s the first batch of selected photos from Iftar! Yeh!

So Part 1 here is mostly a quick quick event review from start till finish… then next up on Episode 2 we’ll have more group pics! Fuuuh.. berWarna-Warni sungguh! Macam dah raya pulakk~ Hee. But all looked verry nice of cos! :D

Presenting~ our pretty kakak2 ushers & registration booth! =)

Oooh here it is! An Iftar with a twist.. 'Cos we had Captain Ball this time around! Siap dengan Sports Court lagik woo~ Check 'em out in action! =)

And.. after that came the prize-giving session for the winners! Congrats2!~ But not forgetting a special speech on Ramadhan from our President Zulazmie and invited speaker Mr Terence Nunis beforehand. And while some were seated at the stage area, other MCG members quickly rushed off to the dining space & started preparing for the Breaking Fast! Bentang kain saprah, siapkan light meal semua.. whoa! It's a big2 gotong-royong time~ Best! =D

Alhamdulillah.. it was finally maghrib~ But a large group of us helpers were still busy preparing drinks for our guests. Mega rush hour! hehe.. Lepas semua dah dpt air, barulah hati lega cket.. & terigt nak buka puasa :D Memorable jugak time tu.. kongsi2 makan honeydew, watermelon & epok2.. Sweet! (Oh yes! Thank You 'Arifah for the really yummyy Bubur!) ^_^

So we all continued with our heavy meal after maghrib prayers, followed by Solat 'Isyak and Terawih soon after.. =)

Cleaning up time~ the Ladies were then busy packing away all the fruits & food, washing the dishes and even rolling the big prayer mats.. and it's Guys' turn next to carry them all.. Kerja keras semua yeh =)

(The spirit here is not the “Ghost” spirit but) the spirit here represents the strength of the heart, mind, body and soul. And I believe that during this holy month, Our hearts become more generous (Just like me, donate every time I can), our mind reflects on the happening around us, where some part of the world, people are suffering (We remember people who are less fortunate, like you all get a chance to play ball, they all play skeleton, they throw skull to play Captain’s Ball), our body withstand thirst and hunger (You all fasting but you all have the spirit), and we purify our soul by doing good deeds (Like what I always do, I always do good deeds, by feeding all of you). Something to share with you that I guess many people don’t know is that every part of our body is fasting. This means, our tongue must be restrained from gossips (Right Taufik? Stop Gossiping!).

The eyes must restrain themselves from looking at unlawful things. (Like just now you all look at different things, but you all don’t look at unlawful things) The hand must not take anything that does not belong to you (So, if the food belongs to me, don’t take from me). The ears must refrain from listening to things that we are not supposed to hear.(That’s why I don’t even bother to hear you all) The feet must refrain from going to sinful places.(And that’s why you all are in RP Iftar) In such a way, every part of the body observes the fast.."

Scorching heat & sunburn, splish splash, and chilling out~ no matter what it was… hope everyone had their own share of FUN! What more when it was a sunny day right at East Coast beach~ So here’s a scoop of MCG’s very FIRST Family Day on August 29th! Let's hear out what Wirni and Zul have to say as quoted from their blogs.. hehe ;)

"Everything was pure fun, especially when u had wonderful friends around you. Played blow wind blow, relay games, captain's ball & treasure hunt challenge. Gerek lah seyhh!!" ~ Wirni

And Some Of The Forfeits Are Initiated By Me.. *Wink Wink* Like The Asyik2 Song.. And Shouting "Aku Giler" In The Centre Of Attraction.. Then Wirni Must Do The "Stop! Kau Mencuri Hatiku" Thingy To Suhaimi.. It's Really FUNNY Lar! And The Clever Me Stop The Game Before I Have To Do The Forfeit.. I'm Sure If I Have To Do The Forfeit, They Will Give Extra Hard Ones.. Oh my.. must have been a really eventful day for the 50 - 60 plus people who came! Glad to know it went well alhamdulillah~ Mucho Gracias To Our Year 2 Organising Committee! for working hard for the past weeks to make it happen. =)) And Thank You to all for Your support too! Till we meet again for more of our get-together sessions to come~ Whee~ ^_^

Carrying many many big boxes along with them~ waduh. Berat tuh.. >_< But insyaAllah there’ll be plenty rewards that come with your kind deeds too ye.. =)

Do come down to support our friends from Repfus3 Tarian for their fundraising event aite! They have plenty of yummy yum goodies from Cookies to sweet Nata de coco-filled Jellies up for grabs! Oooh and even chocolate Fondue on Wednesday too~

They'll be right at the Agora on Monday to Friday, from 1130am to 2pm. =)

Wowwheee~ Last Saturday's culture workshop sure was F.U.N (!) wasn't it?? ^_^ And Everyone seemed to have a good time snapping pictures that the number totaled up to more than a 1000!! *Yakkdish~ >_<* Banyaknyee~ heheh. But nvm 'cos that means many many happy moments captured! ((:

Looking back, the event was definitely a good mix of bonding and learning. Team Spirit's strongly up in the air! Not only did our dearest juniors get to experience how it was like trying out the different sub-IGs (Dikir Barat, Drama, Silat and Tarian) but the seniors managed to join in the excitement for our very first time too! Bestt~

But of course, a successful event would not turn out as it is without the people behind it.. And so, first and foremost.. Well Done To The Year 2 Organising Committee! You guys did great! Much thanks to all Trainers, Student Leaders and Everyone who made it happen too.. and Thank You Bro Bijan, Rizal and Mike from NP for helping us out with the drama section. Appreciate it lots! Alhamdulillah.. Couldn't have done it without You. (:

in their respective competitions last weekend."

Fiestari:

This year’s Fiestari 2007 Malay dance competition which was held at Chengsan Community center on the 21st of July 2007. It was a memorable moment for our Malay Tarian girls as they were placed 2nd runner-up behind 2 other schools. Their fast tempo and unique dance step has not only delight the audience but also the judges. That has given them the cutting edge over the other 13 groups participating in this nationwide school competition. This was also a big achievement for them to be in the top 3 as they only receive the consolation prize in the same competition last year.

The intensive trainings and daily practices is the key to their success as each and every one of them did their best in the competition. Our tarian girls went through the odds and strive hard enough to bring something back for us to be proud of, with the help of the RP supporters.

Pesta Peti Putih (White Box Festival):

The Malay Drama and Literary Group has also done very well in the Pesta Peti Putih ’07 competition recently, or also known as the White Box Festival ‘07, leaving some of the audiences touched and in tears with their sad storyline. Their months of effort have paid off with positive feedbacks from the judges, other participating schools and institutions and also audiences who came to watch their performance on the 21st. Congratulations to one of the cast members, Muhammad Sadikin Nurfaqih Bin Ahmad, who won the Most Outstanding Performer Award.

Their involvement in the Pesta Peti Putih allows them to gain experience working under a well-known theatre organization. They also brought home valuable experience while working with the theatre experts, who also act as their mentors.

Piala Raja Panggung:

In Kampong Chai Chee CC, our newly established Dikir Barat girls group, Endang, battled for the first time in a Nationwide Competition. Giant groups like Kelana Purba and Wahana Deksu also competed in this competition. Although they only manage to attain the consolation trophy, they did well and manage to entertain the audience with their performance.

With the intense training that they had, the experience they have gained, we are sure to expect a much better performance in future competitions and shows. They will be performing for the Taman Warisan on the 11th August. They hope to get more recognition and exposure. With the help of RP supporters, Endang will be able to go a long way. A journey of a thousand mile begins with a single step.

Once again, the month of July is definitely getting sizzling hot with two of our beloved sub-IGs competing real soon too! The pretty ladies from Repfus3 (Tarian) and Endang (Dikir Barat) will be performing in the Fiestari and Piala Raja Panggung this coming weekends, after many many long practices keeping their shine in the grace of dance & voices.

Last Saturday & Sunday our Tarian ladies had their double weekend performances for the opening ceremony of Gentarasa and also the Annual Care & Share Day at RP's TRCC! And as quoted from Repfus3's blog,

"So despite the Guest of Honour coming earlier than expected, the girls were all ready for their turn to shine. And indeed they shine throughout the whole performance.. the girls not only captivated the audience by their elegance and beauty but also through the good performance. Cikgu Rahman was impressed and so was the Guest of Honour. Congratulations Repfus3 on the smooth performance! Your hard earned efforts were really worth it!" ((:

Yosh~ Great news everybody!! Our Selatrans have made a truly impressive achievement once again! The Inter-Varsity Pencak Silat Championship ’07 has finally ended its season yesterday, and our RP warriors came back NOT empty-handed bringing an amazing title as the overall Champion runner-up! 2nd place among 11 institutions wooo.. tak ke hebat tu~ =D

Syukur alhamdulillah, they have successfully clinched a total of 5 gold 2 silver and 5 bronze medals this time around! And our Golden Girls from Regu made history by winning Gold again in their 2nd running! Not to mention the equally awesome medalists and all IVP participants from both Seni and Olahraga categories.. Well Done Selatra!! =))

Sekilas Sedutan: Bahas 4PM! =)

Salam semua!

Okie.. now can finally start doing an update for the bahas event *rubs palms together* Pics received & uploaded, ahaa so here’s an entry to tag along yah~

So it was on a 2nd June Saturday afternoon when our RP team had to pit both their vocal and mental skills to the challenge! "Pendedahan belajar di luar negara membentuk keperibadian global warga Singapura". Aduh.. sounds quite chim eh? >_< Definitely a tough fight there against the opposing Ngee Ann Polytechnic over at Toa Payoh Community Centre.

But… it was not all tension throughout the whole session though; still have those amusing moments from both sides too! The speeedy delivery of words at times (fuh.. lajuu~), the accidental tongue twisters (sampai Pendedahan leh jadik Pembedahan pulak.. hehe =D) and of course the interesting inputs of ideas from both groups. (:

Then.. Results was announced the next day and NP won the bahas. But sadly the two polys didn’t make it to the next round.. Tapi takpe, insyaAllah we’ll both make a comeback next year aite! And for our dear Pembahas ladies, deepest thanks for your willingness to come forward as our wakil ye! Am glad to witness you giving your best shot onstage. For that sign of bravery is already something to be proud of! (:

Hello again semua! Wheee the holidays are here!~ Hmmm but 2 weeks do seem like too short for us yeh? Tapi takpe, can still get abit of time to lift the stress off our minds for a while… hopefully. Hehe =P

But but… I think most of us now are reaaal busy preparing for competitions! And some are already starting too!! Like for instance, we have both the Inter-Varsity Pencak Silat Championship and Bahas 4PM happening Today! Aduh.. mcmana ehk.. kte nak gi support dua2 kawan kte… >_< Haiz. If only I can go to both places at the same time... (but that would be too gory already lah. sebab badan kene pecah dua klw gitu.. hehe! K dah dah. Lame pulak dia =P)

As I have only Selatra’s pics with me now, we do a coverage on the IVP Silat first aite? Entri utk Bahas 4PM akan menyusul sekejap lagi insyaAllah. =) Okies, enjoy the pics!

Yayy2~ Last Friday we had our very 1st event right after the SLA Fiesta.. our Welcome Tea! This time around there were two special performances, games, and even a more lively atmosphere! It was a blasttt~ (Kan kan? hehee..) So how was it you feel? Hopefully everyone had a great time there.. just as how we all here enjoyed it much too! =D

Pentas; Aspirasi!

Salam~

Hey all! Hope everyone’s doing fine there~ Hmmm.. This week’s probably have seen all our Sub-IGs having their meeting with the Year 0nes for the 1st time yeh? Waaah best! So how did each go? Must be real nice I suppose.. =)

Meanwhile, Nadi Sastera just had ours yesterday too. Whoa, sure was a fun one to begin with! *happy2* Had some ice-breaking sessions rolling, one by one introducing themselves in a big merry-go-round (‘cos it went in circles & was much meriah with laughter cracking here and there~ asyik usik mengusik je :P ) A detailed briefing about the group by Huda afterwards.. And then it’s finally announced that we’ll be known as Pentas Karyawan starting that day. Fuh.. Sure gonna be packed with the activities all lined up *yayness* ^_^

Ahh. Then came the classic match that we’ve never missed out doing since our first run last year… The Pyramid Game! And, as usual, pecah perut moments seemed to be a must everytime the guessing began.. hehe!

P/S: Notice something similar in most of the pictures below? Heee.. kinda easy to spot ehk? Sempat aje dorang menyelit dlm foto tau keke.. =P Yups2, Zul and Danial were there too.. Thanks for dropping by guys! Definitely meant more bubbly cheer to the gathering we had. (:

After meeting, paths separated while some decided to stay back for a little while longer.. ah yes, the PPP team that is. (: Our own talented Drama Gang wheee!~ Name given for the project we’re gonna have this upcoming July.. specifically from the 19th to 21st, taking place at the Arts House where we’ll be staging a special production for Pesta Peti Putih, or the White Box Festival by Teater Ekamatra!

Waduh.. quite a big challenge juga nih. Preparation & scriptwriting already on its way… And the members do seem to enjoy a lot of fun from the directing and acting workshops @ TAPAC (Telok Ayer Performing Arts Centre) over a few weekends. Sani Hussein taught you guys once time tu?? Wah sehhh.. Lucky2~ =D

Okay team, hope everything’s gonna run smooth and nice for you ye! Give it all your best shot! 'Cos you truly got what it takes to capture hearts ^_^ Way to go Pentas Karyawannn!~~

Yeps. You guessed that right. the Silat IVP Championship is here again in just a few weeks time! And our Selatra peeps are training realll hard for it too! (4 hari seminggu tau! Wuih~ Rajinnye~ >.< ) Not to mention the adrenaline rush, all the muscles pumping hard, styling different moves and kicks, and definitely one p0werful performance in full force! =D

And so, with this chance to express our heartfelt thots... we’d like to wish the Silat Team all the best of luck, and that May the Glory be With YOU!! =)) Guess this might be a really challenging moment right now eh... what with all the fatigue & pain… but hopefully all your efforts shall pay off! *Ameen2!~*
